“Mother has always held a special place for me. When it first found a home in 2018, I had invested everything I had into starting the gallery. This piece carried me forward when I needed it most. It gave me the foundation to keep going with my art, my research, and the work of sharing my family’s story. I’m grateful now to offer it again, and to invite a new collector to continue its journey.”

One of Michael Gorman’s personal favorites, Mother is a unique, hand-burnished ceramic sculpture made from raku-fired stoneware, standing approximately 18 inches tall. The piece portrays the timeless beauty and strength of motherhood, its surface alive with the depth of raku firing and the subtle sheen of hand-burnishing.
 
Originally acquired in 2018, Mother was among the first works to help establish the Michael Gorman Gallery, making it not only a deeply personal piece but also a milestone in the artist’s career. Having been cared for in a private collection, it now returns to the public market, offering a rare opportunity for a new steward to carry its story forward.
 
With its rarity, presence, and resonance, Mother belongs in a collection that values both artistic mastery and the living narrative of the artist himself.
