  • About The Artist

A first-generation American artist from Albuquerque, New Mexico, BlandoBlandRobertoLara specializes in contemporary mixed media murals with a street graffiti influence, which can be fairly described as "fine art that's not afraid to get a little messy".

Blando Bland began creating at age 11 as a street artist or “tagger” in the Albuquerque South Valley. In 2010 he enrolled in the Art Program at Central New Mexico Community College. He wanted to be the first in his family to go to college in the States. He focused his attention on developing his skills in traditional oil and acrylic, which he now mixes with his graffiti style and techniques.

His paintings reflect the surroundings in which he grew up. New Mexico's vast landscape of endless skies filled with clouds of every hue and texture are present in the vibrant colors he uses to fill his pieces. A soft smooth, beautiful transition from hue to hue transposed with the bold, sometimes jagged lines of figures in the foreground.

  • About The Original

The original work is mixed media on 16x20 canvas. Blando uses stenciling and spray paint techniques along with traditional painting techniques to achieve his final result.

The stencil work is hand-cut from the 1967 portrait of Georgia O'Keeffe (1887 - 1986) by Phillippe Halsman (1906 - 1979). Blando must decide which lines truly capture the essence of the person. The electricity surrounding her head represents her creative engergy.
